Rotarians in Sussex County are building The Can-Do Playground at Hudson Park — a place where children and families of all abilities can play, grow, and connect.

The playground will have four areas: play zones for ages 2–5 & 5–12, swing area, and quiet sensory space.

Created by Sussex Rotary Can-Do Playground, Inc., a nonprofit started by seven local Rotary clubs, it will be part of Stephen P. Hudson Park, managed by the Sussex County Land Trust to protect and improve community spaces.

We need $860,000 total. So far, we have raised over $250,000. By the end of 2025, we need another $200,000 to order the equipment. We are looking for donations of $10,000–$20,000 from people and groups who want to help make this playground a reality for the 8,000+ children with disabilities in Sussex County.

the can-do
playground project

The Can-Do Playground at Hudson Park is a community improvement project created and implemented by concerned Rotarians who are members of seven Sussex County, Delaware Rotary Clubs. There is a universal need for spaces in which children of all abilities and their families can play and interact in fun and positive activities. Can-Do at Hudson is the 4th facility developed and maintained by Rotarians specifically to provide a safe environment with inclusive play areas that focus on physical, cognitive, communicative, social/emotional, and sensory development of the whole child. When completed, the playground will feature 4 unique areas: a 2-5 year-old play area, a 5-12 year-old play area, a swings play area, and a special sensory play area. The project is expected to be completed in 12 to 18 months.
